Mercerwood

Home to some spectacular Eastern views, Mercerwood was the first post WW2 tract development built on the island. The prevalent home style in this neighborhood dates from the 1950s and early 1960s.

Several important Mercer Island entities are located in this neighborhood: Mercer Island High School, City Hall and the District Court, the Mercer Island Police Department, Stroum Jewish Community Center and the Mercerwood Shore Club.  This large-sized island neighborhood is also in close proximity to the island’s only public library.

The Stroum Jewish Community Center campus on Mercer Island was established in 1968.  The campus includes a fitness center, racquetball courts, indoor running track, gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, auditorium, children’s library, kitchen, classrooms, and meeting rooms.  More than 10,000 people utilize this campus’ facilities every year and over 200 children are enrolled in the K and younger childrens’ programs.  Transportation is provided to and from several of the island schools for its before and after school program.

The Mercerwood Shore Club, established in 1953, offers year around amenities including a 6000 sq. ft. clubhouse, weight room, fitness studio, competitive 25 meter pool, high dive, and four outdoor tennis courts.  The Shore Club also has over 500 feet of waterfront property, which includes a large grass picnic area, built-in BBQs, fire pits, sandy beach, a playground, a swimming area and boat launch with 36 moorage slips.  The slips are available to club members on a rotational basis. The MSC is also a participating member of the Midlakes League, and offers competitive sport experiences for children ages 5 and up.  Lessons and other activities are also available for children throughout the year.
